Tejaprana Resort – A magical stay on the oasis of Bali

Although humid, chaotic and at times edgy, Kuta, Bali’s main southern tourist resort, provided a fantastic introduction to the island with art vendors, rocking bars and food sensations at every turn. We were however relieved to head north for the lush greens and peace of Ubud, Bali’s cultural capital, where 3 nights at Tejaprana Resort & Spa awaited.

Tejaprana Resort & Spa is snuggly nestled in the jungles of the Petanu river valley in Tegallalang, residing 4 kilometres from Ubud’s centre. Designed to immerse visitors in Balinese Taksu, or the indescribable essence of Spirit, the resort favours traditional Balinese architectural methods that seamlessly harmonise with the surrounding jungle.

A significant amount of time marvelling at pictures of our reserved valley view room online did nothing to prepare for the reality of staying in a true Balinese paradise. Rooms reside in east facing contemporary, standalone villas that combine traditional aesthetic principals, such as thatched roofing and exposed beams, with modern comforts and rich interior furnishes famed in Bali. The main room feature however are sizable private infinity plunge pools that overlook the Petanu river valley, a prime spot to cool, drink and watch the jungle scene play out. Accompanying outdoor natural stone baths complete a truly enchanting balcony area that delivers the natural Bali sensual overload imagined.

Dining among the treetops in the onsite Aruna Restaurant is highly memorable. Inspired by Kalpataru, the wishful divine tree in Hindu mythology, the intricate bamboo structure elevates diners, providing spectacular views of the resort and surrounding jungle landscape. Dining here for breakfast is a privilege, and a fantastic location to fuel up before a day exploring Ubud for which complementary hotel transfers to and from town center are provided. Walking into Ubud is also an option with a sub hour walk seeing you into town, although the numerous art and craft workshops to be explored on route are sure to slow your commute.

Other onsite facilities include complementary afternoon tea in Tejaprana’s Oja Lounge, a dedicated yoga space headed up by the highly experienced Maitra Bale, and a communal infinity pool area complete with panoramic jungle views and bar area.
