A trip to the Algarve has long been on our list of must visit destinations combining unique cuisine, rolling landscapes and a global reputation as a leading golf and leisure destination. Focussing on the central Algarve, Quinta do Lago’s shining reviews could not be ignored, no easy feat in an area renowned for some of Europe’s best high end resorts and so nicknamed the Golden Triangle. And with the likes of Rory McIlroy retreating to Quinta do Lago a matter of weeks before our arrival, we were keen to see if any ounce of golfing talent had been left behind.
Cruising around Quinta do Lago we couldn’t help but feel we were in Beverly Hills de Portugal with a mixture of sophisticated 5* hotels, stunning contemporary residential villas and high end fashion and jewelry retailers. A feeling further amplified by the luxury restaurant selection that includes the spectacular Casa Velha and Bovino Steakhouse.
Embracing its historical sporting prowess Quinta do Lago has continued to invest in state of the art sporting facilities. These include the Campus development complete with catch phrase “Bring your A game” as posted around the resort. This development consists of ten tennis courts, four padel courts, a gymnasium and pool, cycling facilities and a professional hybrid sports pitch.
Quinta do Lago is celebrating its 45th year anniversary, over which time it has established itself as a prestigious leisure destination, a persevering vision that has stood the test of time and one that continues to evolve.
Many thanks to the Quinta do Lago team for kindly hosting us, all opinions expressed are our own.
