Hotel Icon, located in Hong Kong’s buzzing area of Tsim Sha Tsui, proved the perfect base camp for a weeks stay in the pearl city. As with any major city hotel search we were swamped with options, even more so due to the Kowloon vs. HK Island set-up of the city. Seeking bustle, food sensations and incredible cityscape views, Kowloon won out and with the luxury on offer at Hotel Icon, their competitive rates and strong reviews (not to mention the free in-room minibar) we were quickly booked.
The hotel is ideally connected by a free shuttle bus that services a small number of Kowloon hotels, via Hong Kong International, taking less than 30 minutes to arrive to Icon’s sleek lobby, which constantly seemed to be alive with the buzz from restaurant Green located in a separate area at the rear of the lobby.
After a quick ear popping elevator ride to our room on the 22nd floor we were presented with our own cool, stylish retreat from the humidity, hustle and bustle of the glowing city outside. Bed side harbour views on offer at Icon are not to be underestimated and will keep you entertained day and night with wondering boats, light shows and a unique perspective of the gateway to China. If you manage to pull yourself away from the window, the room is host to a wide range of state of the art technology including a large flat screen TV, a smart phone (with free international calls to 25 countries, including the UK), a bluetooth speaker, a mini on the go charger for your smartphone (PokemonGo inspired surely) and free WI-FI.
With Hung Hom MTR station a literal stones throw away and Tsim Sha Tsui MTR stations within 10 minute walks the city really is your oyster, whether you’re heading north to the ladies market or south to conquer the peak.
Being so well connected to a thriving city will keep you on your feet so fuel up in one of Hotel ICON’s three award winning restaurants – the very decadent Above and Beyond on the 28th floor, The Market where breakfast is served, and Green the morning coffee stop/ evening Brasserie.
If you’re looking for that movie scene, luxury Harbour view room, well located to take on the city, then seriously consider Hotel Icon. However be warned, you’ll struggle to find a bed side view on par in any future stays!
