Home to Michelin starred Peel’s restaurant, Hampton Manor offers visitors a unique stay and dine experience steeped in the neo-Gothic surrounds of this grand home.
GETTING THERE
A two hour dash from London Euston sees you to Hampton in Arden. This West Midlands village has a designated conservation area at its heart given its rich history and architectural relics. Also home to Hampton Manor, a pleasant five minute stroll from the station will see your to arrival, with the Manor’s Gothic grandeur slowly revealed on approach.
THE PROPERTY
Framed by stunning surrounds rich in autumnal colour, the charm and elegance of this mid 18th Century neo-Tudor building is striking. Although fortified in stature, the manor’s interiors are anything but. Welcoming staff ensure a homely feel that reflects the family run nature of this establishment. Recently renovated there is an abundance of intricate, original details to be explored a room at a time. Combining to preserve the heritage of the Peel family.
The stunning seven feature rooms and three suites are each uniquely designed, providing individualistic perspectives of the Manor. An in room bath tub affords the opportunity to soak up the antique architecture while warming after a day exploring the Manor’s 45 acre surrounds. Otherwise a visit to close-by Stratford upon Avon and Warwick Castle are also good ideas.
DINING
Food is a real focus and lure for many of the visitors who frequent the Manor. Chef Robert Palmer mans the helm at Michelin starred Peels restaurant, serving seasonal British garden produce in memorable plates across either a four or seven course tasting journey.
The atmospheric bellows of smoke that emerge from Hampton Manor’s on-site smoker by day re-emerge on Peels’ plates by night, infusing dishes such as the spectacular smoked eel. Served with kohlrabi and samphire, this stand out plate is elegantly paired with a Rakishteli Georgian white wine – traditionally fermented in underground clay pots, a process unique to this historic wine making region.
With such quality emerging from the kitchen, it’s no surprise that Peel’s junior sous chef Monty Stonehewer is front and centre of this years Master Chef: The Professionals – currently in the final 12 at the time of writing. Good luck Monty!
THE VERDICT
Bringing together the best of British across design, creativity and food and drink, Hampton Manor’s rich history of welcoming guests is a triumph to British hospitality. With exciting events all year round and celebrity chef hosted supper clubs, take the time to explore a piece of British history while sampling fine flavours in good company.
Suites are available from £340/ room including breakfast, and feature rooms from £295 (based on two people staying). Peels’ seven corse tasting menu is £100 per diner or £80 for four courses (excludes wine pairings).
