Broadway Market is famed for its bustling Saturday street stalls selling everything from artisan pastries and fresh coffee to vintage fur coats. However, market aside, it’s also home to some of the most exciting restaurant openings in London.
With former Salt Yard chef Ricardo Pimentel at the helm, alongside the team behind La Farola and Gallipoli in Islington, Mediterranean restaurant Tuyo opened this Summer. Serving up a menu of Mediterranean and Levantine small plates with a Spanish twist, the restaurant sits along the canal in Broadway Market with bright and airy décor welcomes natural light, ideal for those instagram-able moments.
Chef Ricardo has created a selection of “pinchos” or small bites to share, such as picos blue and date croquetas, duck and figs on a bed of pearl barley and their ‘Slider Decider 2017’ award winning bellota slider with homemade piquillo ketchup, agridolce shallots tzatziki and manchego (a must try). A selection of charcuterie and cheeses are also on offer, predominantly sourced from Spain and Italy.
Main dishes follow a Mediterranean theme with hints of Turkish influence such as Chicken thigh with honey poached apricots, sumac yoghurt and pistachios; Halloumi, roast beetroot, orange hazelnuts and 8 year aged balsamic; Dill and lime cured salmon and beetroot, served with yoghurt and berries; and the divine Octopus with hummus and cumin yoghurt that is chargrilled to perfection.
The attention to detail and superb presentation of each dish is reminiscent of a high end fine dining experience, however the atmosphere in Tuyo is laid back and the menu is real value for money. The Mediterranean influences from Italy, Spain and Turkey are apparent in each dish and the marriage of fresh ingredients with chef Ricardo’s innovative flavour pairings make Tuyo one of the most exciting restaurants we have visited this year.
